Let’s Talk about Body image and Self- confidence!
Summer is coming! Soon the holidays, the beach, the sun, the swimming. You are delighted! After a hard school year, choices about your future – what will you choose to study: biology? but you like philosophy so much too… it’s hard to choose – your best friend who moved away in the middle of the year, your dad’s unemployment, a bit of rest in the sun will not be stolen. You can already see yourself lying on a deckchair sipping a fresh orange juice! How wonderful!
But you’re already starting to see the swimming costume ads and the “summer body” injunction that you hate so much. You rant. You love your body, it’s yours. It does its job well. Leaning on your desk, thinking about it all, your phone rings.
It’s Mary, your best friend. You have a lot to talk about! How is life in the new city? Has she decided what she is going to study next year? How is her cute little puppy? Mary tells you all about it and also about the great new diet she’s doing to finally get her “summer body”. It’s all too much for you to take in. How can Mary, who is so perfect the way she is, give in to this nonsense, perhaps at the risk of her health?
You decide that something must be done.
You know very well that Mary is not the only one to fall into the trap and that it is not a women’s issue. It affects all people. You’ve recently learned how to make a podcast and you think it would be great to create one about body image and self-confidence. Challenge accepted!
